Man Utd retain Jarrad Branthwaite interest as Liverpool linked with Everton defender

Manchester United reportedly have Jarrad Branthwaite high on their shortlist for 2027, while Liverpool are also being linked with the Everton defender.

Football Insider reports that United remain interested in the 24-year-old as they consider changes to their defence next year. Liverpool are also said to admire Branthwaite and could consider a move in 2027.

United’s interest in Branthwaite is long-standing. Everton rejected two bids from Old Trafford in 2024 and have since strengthened their position by agreeing a new long-term contract with the England international.

Everton in strong position over Branthwaite

Branthwaite’s deal runs until June 2030, leaving Everton under no immediate pressure to consider a sale.

The latest report claims the Toffees value the centre-back at around £80m, a figure which would represent a significant investment for any interested club.

Liverpool’s reported interest provides a new angle to the player’s future, although there have been no reported talks between the clubs. Everton would also be particularly reluctant to lose a key player to their Merseyside rivals.

For David Moyes, Branthwaite remains an important part of his plans. The defender has returned to the side this season after injuries restricted his appearances during the previous campaign, although he missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal under concussion protocols.

Further interest would be little surprise given Branthwaite’s age and Premier League experience, but Everton’s position is considerably stronger than when United first attempted to sign him.

With a contract until 2030 and a reported £80m valuation, any club wanting Branthwaite will have to meet Everton’s terms plus some.
