Everton boss Roberto Martinez has said the cat that ran onto the pitch during his side’s 2-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge reminded him of Cecil the lion, according to FourFourTwo.
The cat, who prefers to remain nameless, scampered onto the Goodison turf late into the second half as the Blues made light work of their F.A Cup third round clash.
Goals from Arouna Kone and Kevin Mirallas gave Everton a comfortable victory and a place in the fourth round of the cup, but it was the cat who stole the show and caught Martinez’s eye:
“I thought he had great style and movement,”
“He’s a young cat who’ll make mistakes.
“I don’t want to put any pressure on him, but he reminds me of Cecil the lion.”
Cecil the lion, a famous big cat from Zimbabwe, was thrown into world news after he was shot dead by US dentist Walter Palmer. Let’s hope the mischievous moggie doesn’t have the same fate.
It remains to be seen if the cat faces legal action for his/her unwarranted sprint on the pitch, but whispers coming out of Finch Farm suggest he/she’s leapfrogged Aiden Mcgeady in the pecking order at Goodison Park.
