Martinez – I know what the fans want

Roberto Martinez understands Evertonians can be frustrated with him but is still aiming to get the Blues back into Europe, according to the Daily Mail.

The Catalonian has faced criticism from a substantial part of the Everton fanbase, but believes any ill-feeling towards him from the supporters is healthy:

‘When you start managing, popularity is important because you feel supported and you feel you can make big decisions with the support of the fans and the understanding of what you’re trying to build.

In my position now I understand the frustration or the emotions sometimes can be directed towards the manager and I think that’s healthy.

In the same way, I understand that if the team wins I will be a popular figure and if the team doesn’t win I am quite happy to accept that emotion from the fans.

I think the players need to have space and comfort to be able to develop and have that opportunity to perform.

As the manager I know exactly what the fans want and that’s why I am going to give everything I’ve got to build it and achieve it.’

Martinez is still confident he can bring success to Goodison Park.

Everton have only lost twice on the road in all competitions this season, but it is a different story at Goodison Park.

The Blues have only picked up four points from their last six games at home and the Goodison faithful are growing more and more frustrated by the poor results and performances.

Martinez knows home form is a concern for Everton but he is still confident his side can finish in the European places, and he doesn’t believe the Blues need to win the F.A Cup in for this campaign to be considered a good one:

‘I wouldn’t say I need to win it. We want to get into a European position in the table and we are in a position where we could do it.

There are 36 points to play for and we are not far away. That’s what we are still fighting for and that’s our aim.’

Everton face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening and will be looking to make a giant stride towards Wembley with a win over Eddie Howe’s men.
