Everton boss Roberto Martinez has admitted that his side face a crucial summer of transfer activity, as the Blues manger looks to revive his aging, underperforming squad.
The Catalan is believed to want 4 players- an imposing left-sided centre-back, 2 midfielders and a winger- ahead of the new season, and the Toffees supremo says that key targets have already been identified.
“I think it is an important summer. “It becomes about recruitment and that’s the priority.
“I think we are very clear in what we need. We have found players that we want and it becomes a process about trying to make those targets a possibility and make them Everton players.
“We are very excited about the future. I think the work from this season has made us stronger and more mature.
“If anything, going through the difficulties of this campaign has made us hungrier for success. We want to give our fans something they can be extremely satisfied with, and clearly this summer the recruitment process is vital.”
Martinez believes that the lack of any major European tournament this summer will enable the club to conduct the majority of their transfer business early in the window.
He said: “No tournament this summer does help. It will depend on the target, but obviously major tournaments always delay those sorts of situations.
“The value of the player in the market can be drastically changed by what happens in a major tournament. But now our business could happen in a much smoother manner, and we will try to do it as quickly as we can with some of our targets. Others we will try to bring in late because of the type of player that we need to bring in.”
