Matthew Pennington hints at permanent Everton exit

Everton defender Matthew Pennington says it is time for him to “settle down” and play regular football for a permanent club.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make the grade at Goodison Park, despite scoring away to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby back in April 2017.

Pennington is currently on loan at Ipswich Town, having moved to Portman Road in the summer.

It is the latest in a string of temporary switches and Pennington says now is the time to think about possible leaving Everton:

It would be nice to settle down somewhere.

I’m 24 now and I’ve been out on loan five times, so I guess it’s getting to the time now where I need to find a club, settle down and kick on. It could be here but I don’t know.

It’s just up to me to keep performing and playing games then we’ll see what happens.

I don’t know what’s happening with Everton. I’ve had a phone call or two from them but nothing more than that.

Pennington has made just nine appearances for Everton since making his debut for the club in 2015.

There doesn’t appear to be a future for him under Marco Silva, and at 24, he can no longer necessarily be viewed as a young player with potential.
