Palace make bid for James McCarthy – should Everton accept it?

Crystal Palace have made an £8m bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy, according to Sky Sports, but should the Blues accept the offer?

McCarthy has hardly featured for the Blues since recovering from his broken leg and with just one year remaining on his deal at Goodison Park, it could make sense to cash in now.

Everton have enough midfielders ahead of the Republic of Ireland star in the pecking order but is £8m enough to justify letting him go?

McCarthy joined Everton for around £13million in 2013 as he followed Roberto Martinez from Wigan, just months after the Latics won the FA Cup, and he’s gone on to play over 130 games.

On the face of it, the sale makes sense. It would free up some room in the Blues’ squad and importantly, it would allow McCarthy to get his career back on track post-injury.

Everton could be selfish and just keep the 28-year-old around as depth but it would likely benefit all parties if he was allowed to leave.
