Steven Pienaar is pondering a move to the Chinese SuperLeague, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The South African veteran hasn’t started in the Premier League this season, with his only starts coming in the F.A Cup against Carlisle United and Dagenham and Redbridge.
Pienaar has struggled with injuries for the last 18 months and has become somewhat of a forgotten man at Goodison Park under Roberto Martinez.
The Chinese league deadline for transfers is at the end of this month so Pienaar could potentially leave in the next week or so, and although he’s in the last year of his contract he could command hefty fee, such is the attitude towards spending in Chinese football.
Former Everton hitman Nikica Jelavic left West Ham United for second division side Beijing Renhe for £9million, while PSG winger Ezequiel Lavezzi left Paris for Hebei China Fortune for around £23.5million even though his deal at the Parc Des Princes was due to expire in the summer.
Pienaar’s stay at Everton is slowly petering out but the Goodison faithful will always appreciate the service the former Borussia Dortmund star has given over his two spells on Merseyside.
