Silva sets sights high and aims for Euro 2016 winner as first signing

Marco Silva wants to make William Carvalho his first signing as Everton boss, according to the Mirror.

The Toffees appointed the Portuguese manager with a view to raising their aspirations as a club, and the first step on the road to better days is to get fresh blood in the door at Goodison Park.

The ex-Hull and Watford man has spent time with Carvalho previously, as the midfielder was under the tutelage of Silva at his club Sporting Lisbon.

A bruising defensive contributor, the 26-year-old boasts plenty of valuable experience, including playing the full 120 minutes of Portugal’s Euro 2016 final, where his nation defeated France 1-0 to hoist the trophy.

Useful with the ball at his feet, pinpoint passing may be Carvalho’s secret weapon. If Silva is looking to create a stern midfield, focused on ball retention and dispossession – William Carvalho may prove to be a worthy partner of Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Silva is expected to introduce a pleasing brand of football to the Goodison turf, as Evertonians try to shake the memory of Sam Allardyce’s apologetically efficient tactical setup.
