Tottenham Hotspur looked like that had finally registered their first away league win in 10 months, but a 97th minute equaliser from substitute Cenk Tosun ensured that Everton got the share of the spoils in a game that was overshadowed by a horrific injury suffered by Andre Gomes.
The game itself was not one of many chances, the only notable one in the first-half was an effort just after the half-hour mark when Lucas Digne picked out Richarlison, he controlled and, on the turn, tested Paulo Gazzaniga.
With both teams struggling in the bottom half of the league, this game showed exactly why, as from that Richarlison chance, the next one was the goal just after the hour mark.
Alex Iwobi gave the ball away very cheaply in the middle of the pitch as his attempted back pass was intercepted by Son Heung-Min. He immediately turned and sent Dele Alli through on goal, who cut inside Mason Holgate and drilled the ball low into the net to give Spurs the lead.

After giving his side the lead, Alli probably should have conceded a penalty eight minutes later after he jumped for the ball inside his own area.
Alli and Yerry Mina both went for the ball from an Everton corner and it appeared to strike the arm of Alli, and with the new law introduced this season, it looked as if a penalty would be awarded by VAR. But for some reason and many minutes later, VAR official Anthony Taylor deemed it to be not a penalty.

10 minutes later and the game came to a halt when Andre Gomes was stretchered off with what looks like a broken leg.
Prior to the injury Gomes shielded the ball from Son and in the process, Son got a forearm to the face, this looked to upset the Korean and he wanted to let Gomes know he was in for a game. The next time the Portuguese midfielder received the ball, Son was the first player to make a tackle and in doing so sent Gomes off balance whilst travelling towards Serge Aurier. His foot was planted into the floor and subsequently ended in the horrific injury.

Martin Atkinson who oversaw the game pulled out a yellow card for Son, but upon seeing the injury to Andre Gomes changed it to a red card, and the Korean was sent off. This decision should have been checked by VAR, but for some reason was ignored.
With this lengthy delay, and the VAR delay for the penalty shout, 12 minutes of stoppage time was added, and this proved costly for Spurs as they conceded in the 97th.
Mina played a cross-field pass to Digne out on the left, and on the volley, he picked out Cenk Tosun who nodded in the equaliser sending the Gwladys Street crazy.

With the goal, Everton felt like they still had enough about them to get the winner and had one more chance in the 99th minute.
Davinson Sanchez who had a personal battle all game with Richarlison, looked to have lost possession to the Brazilian, and as Richarlison got away from Sanchez, the Spurs defender looked to have caught Richarlison on the back of the leg, although he did go down theatrically. Referee Atkinson and VAR official Taylor decided that it was not enough contact to bring down Richarlison.
Whereas if Richarlison had stayed on his feet, he would have been through on goal with Gazzaniga and had Tosun alongside for what would have been a simple tap in.
