Manchester United are interested in signing Everton right back Seamus Coleman after failing to capture both Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne, according to ESPN sources.
United boss Louis Van Gaal is looking to bring in a right back as he prepares to lead United back into the Champions League next season.
After Alves signed a new contract at Barcelona and Liverpool expected to sign Clyne from Southampton early next week, United have scouted Coleman as their best option.
After cementing his name on the Everton team sheet for the previous three seasons, the club awarded the Irish international with a new five-year deal last summer- keeping him tied to Roberto Martinez’s team until 2019.
This could potentially mean that United would need to spend big to lure the 26-year old to Old Trafford.
But Coleman wouldn’t be the first key Everton player to leave for Manchester- as Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellani have both swapped blue for red since the turn of the century for hefty price tags.
The Toffees signed the Irish international for a bargain £60,000 pounds from Sligo Rovers back in 2009.
Last season he made 40 appearances for Everton in all competitions, with an average rating of 6.95 (WhoScored). He scored five goals and created two, as well as having a pass completion rate of 83.5%.
Since he arrived at Goodison, Coleman has played over 150 games for the Toffees, scoring 19 goals.
