Virals: Alan Myers highlights the scale of recent Everton success

Everton fan and Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has taken to Twitter to share both his thoughts and some revealing facts after Everton came back from a goal down to snatch a point away from home.

Taking on Manchester United at Old Trafford, a driven shot from Andros Townsend was enough to seal a result for the Blues following an incisive counterattack spearheaded by the likes of Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Townsend even mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo as he imitated his trademark goal celebration upon firing a goal of his own beyond the powers of David de Gea, with his goal having positive implications for the Toffees.

As Myers noted in a series of factual Tweets, the current points tally represents the most points yielded from Everton’s first seven games since the 2004/05 season.

Everton finished in fourth that season in a formidable campaign that saw a similar level of momentum sustained across the board.

With 14 points to date from their first seven fixtures, Everton are in the Champions League places in fourth and are separated from their weekend opponents only on goal difference.

Myers also noted superb turnaround from new Everton star Andros Townsend who continued his scoring run against United.

Andros Townsend’s 5 goals in his 9 Everton games equals his tally in his last 79 games for Crystal Palace in a testament to his recovery in front of goal.

Both for Townsend individually and Everton as a team, life under Rafa Benitez has got off to a commendable start.

A cursory look at Townsend’s heat map from last season shows his transformation tactically, being deployed further up the pitch compared to his time at Crystal Palace.

It is a fine example of Rafa Benitez and his transformative work at Everton.
