Vitalii Mykolenko, ever‑present at left‑back this season, has spoken about the team’s mindset, the race for Europe, and the crazy draw with Manchester City.
The Ukrainian international has started all 30 of his league appearances, playing every minute in the process. He has contributed one assist and has helped Everton keep nine clean sheets. Defensively, he has been a reliable option for David Moyes at the left-back position.
Mykolenko believes Everton can get into Europe easily
Asked about the European chase, Mykolenko revealed the squad’s belief. “Yes, I remember [James Tarkowski] said before the Man City game, ‘Let’s enjoy this race.’ We’re still in it and we can get nine points if we win three games, which is ideal for us. If we do that, we can easily get into Europe. This is our target, our small dream. Hopefully, we will get that.”

On the thrilling 3‑3 draw with Manchester City, Mykolenko admitted the defensive frustrations. “Yes, it was a crazy, crazy game. So many of my friends texted me to say it was an amazing game to watch. But for us, we conceded three goals – two in the end. It’s three games in a row we’ve conceded late goals, so it’s not very good for me as a defender.”
‘We’re playing better football, more interesting football’
The first season at Hill Dickinson Stadium has brought progress. Mykolenko reflected positively. “I think we’re playing better football, more interesting football for the fans. It’s important the fans enjoy watching our games. Hopefully, we’ll keep improving for next season.”
Sunday’s opponents, Crystal Palace, played in Europe on Thursday, beating Shakhtar Donetsk in the Conference League semi‑final. Mykolenko watched that game. “Yes, they’re a Ukrainian team. I have a few friends playing for them and of course, I watched that game. I think it’s two different football styles – Shakhtar and Crystal Palace. Palace won 2-1 and I think they deserved to win.”
Everton’s small dream is still alive. Three wins. Three finals. It starts at Selhurst Park. Mykolenko has laid down what the team feels ahead of the important clash in London. However, he has warned that their late conceding of goals is certainly a defensive frustration.
