West Brom make Mason Holgate enquiry – but should he receive a first-team chance?

West Brom have enquired over the possibility of re-signing Everton defender Mason Holgate this summer – but should the youngster receive a first-team chance?

According to Football Insider, the Baggies have made contact with the Toffees over a possible second loan stint in the Midlands for the 22-year-old.

Holgate spent the second half of the previous campaign at The Hawthorns, with the versatile defender a regular in West Brom’s backline under previous managers Darren Moore and James Shan.

The Englishman made 23 appearances in all competitions for the club, with his only goal coming in a 3-0 win over Swansea City in March.

Despite the club failing in the play-off semi-finals against Aston Villa, Holgate made quite the impression in the Midlands, and with Everton currently short at the back, Holgate could benefit from a first-team chance at Goodison Park.

He can play right-back and centre-back and shown last season he is beginning to mature as a player.

Everton were looking to re-sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea on a permanent basis this summer, however, Frank Lampard revealed he is hoping to keep hold of the Frenchman ahead of the new season.

So allowing Holgate to stay for the upcoming campaign could prove to be a smart decision by Marco Silva, especially if the Toffees fail to add to their defensive options over the next couple of weeks.
