Wolves join Everton in James Rodriguez pursuit

Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined fellow Premier League side Everton in the race for the signature of James Rodriguez, according to a report on Defensa Central.

The Real Madrid playmaker is understood to be very frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities given to him by the Spanish club this season and is looking for an escape this summer.

He’s only made 13 appearances in all competitions this season for Zinedine Zidane’s side (Transfermarkt).

As stated in the report, both Everton and Wolves are keeping a close eye on his situation but are not willing to pay the €50m asking price that Real Madrid has set for him.

We feel that Everton should be concerned by this news.

Wolves are a team that are on a rapid rise and could secure UEFA Champions League football for next season, which might prove to be a deciding factor in the negotiations.

Although the report claims that Rodriguez doesn’t care about whether he plays in Europe next season, we feel that it could still affect his decision because he is a player who thrives on the big stage, as seen during the 2014 World Cup.

He’s 28-years-old and has scored 104 club goals throughout his career, but both clubs could need his price tag to drop if they want to secure his services next season, as he is likely to command a huge salary.

We believe Wolves might feel confident about striking a deal with Rodriguez because of their close relationship with Jorge Mendes – the former’s agent – he has played a key role in a number of their recent high-profile signings.
