Everton defender Tyias Browning has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.

The 23-year centre-back has been on loan with Sunderland this season and has featured heavily for the relegation threatened Black Cats, playing in 27 Championship games.

Browning sustained the injury during Sunderland’s midweek hosting of Aston Villa, where the former England Under-20 international was substituted on the half hour mark.

Since then, it has been revealed that the injury is worse than what was originally thought.

Browning will now leave Wearside to return to Everton to receive treatment.

With Browning leaving Chris Coleman’s side, it could potentially open the door for fellow Everton loanee Brendan Galloway to pick up some minutes, with the former MK Dons youngster having struggled for game times this season.
