Silva still favourite for Everton job, but not the only option

Marco Silva remains the favourite to replace Sam Allardyce as Everton manager, but there are other names in the frame.

The Liverpool Echo report that Eddie Howe is another candidate being considered by the club’s hierarchy, as a result of the job he’s done at Bournemouth.

New director of Football Marcel Brands doesn’t officially start his role until next week but is reportedly playing a key role in the appointment.

Silva’s most recent job was with Premier League rivals Watford, where he was sacked in January of this year.

The Hornets cited an “unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival” earlier in the campaign as one of the reasons for their downturn in form, and that club is believed to be Everton.

Prior to that, Silva had been at Hull, Olympiakos, Sporting Lisbon and Estoril.

Allardyce was sacked last week despite guiding the club to eighth place in the league, with the unsatisfactory style of play thought to be the main reason for his departure.

It is believed the Toffees are keen to appoint his successor by the end of this week, to give him sufficient time to alter the squad.
