DC United chief delivers update on pursuit of Everton star
DC United manager Ben Olsen has delivered an update on his side’s pursuit of Everton man Wayne Rooney this summer, as reported by Goal.
The MLS outfit want to land the former England international as they aim to make a marquee signing.
Rooney only joined Everton last summer after leaving Manchester United but it has not been a fairytale return for the attacker, who endured a difficult season at Goodison Park last term.
It’s thought that Rooney would be open to the prospect of moving to Washington this summer, with DC United boss Olsen confirming that his side are looking to secure a deal with Everton for the experienced player.
There is interest in Wayne Rooney from our end and I think there is interest from his end too. I hope it can get over the line because he’s a very good player who can help us. He would be a great player for this league.
Rooney may be deemed surplus to requirements on Merseyside by the club’s new manager, who is yet to be appointed following the dismissal of Sam Allardyce.
However, with DC United evidently looking to land Rooney, his second stint at Everton could be set for a premature end.
