Let’s all face facts about last season. Everton, as a club, were an absolute shambles. From the signings made to the managerial merry go round, things were not good at Goodison.
To compete again, the Blues’ squad desperately needs to be frefreshed.
Wayne Rooney and Ramiro Funes Mori have already been shown the door, a little prematurely on the latter could be argued, but it seems anyone who has any kind of value or is sitting on a decent wage will be looked to be moved on if they aren’t first-team starters.
The Blues need to bring in a couple of players, at least, but in order to do that, they’ll need to move on a few current squad members.
Here are five players who I think need to be shown the door this summer:
Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Schneiderlin would have been one of the first names first on my team sheet if you would have asked me to pick an XI in August 2017 but he has gone backwards since. His attitude and his laziness has been the talk of most the core fans. I genuinely believe there is a player in there but I don’t think it’s going to be found at Goodison Park. Get him sold and off the wage bill.
Kevin Mirallas
Even writing this is hurting me!
I was the biggest advocate for Kevin Mirallas to be a mainstay in the Everton team as he is quick, strong and can finish.
Now, he is lazy, paired up with Schneiderlin in the attitude stakes. He just does not look overly concerned when he isn’t playing well and will sulk when things don’t go his way.
If anyone will have him, sell him, but I think we might have to take a hit and release him due to the size of his salary.
Sandro
This is a no brainer.
He is reportedly earning £120k a week and let’s face it, he has done nothing to set the world alight.
After watching him in a number of games last season, he looked completely out his depth which is baffling considering how good he was for a very average Malaga side.
Get rid, move on.
Yannick Bolasie
First things first, I like the fella but the injury he suffered has set Yannick Bolasieback and then some.
His sole weapon he has (or had) was his ability to run at defenders and make a cross, neither of which he can do with any conviction at all now.
It is a shame due to the seriousness of his injury, but a move back to the capital may be best for both parties.
Ashley Williams
After a cracking campaign with Wales at the Euros, I genuinely thought we had signed a gem.
This was not the case. Williams must have seen the pound signs and ran. His defensive frailties have become somewhat comical and the shrug of ‘I’m not bothered’ attitude crept in a lot last season. His partnership with Michael Keane was comical to say the least.
A trip back to Swansea in the Championship would be my bet.
