  • Barry’s arrival from Villarreal was treated with immense optimism by Evertonians.
  • Presented as an ambitious signing and has offered mixed performances since.
  • With five to go, Barry could yet win over Toffees supporters with some crucial goals.

Thierno Barry’s time at Everton has truly been a mixed bag.

The striker got off to a slow start on Merseyside and only claimed his first goal for the Blues in December during a 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest.

And to add to this, he has been in direct competition with striking colleague, Beto, who now appears to be the go-to man up top for David Moyes.

Pending an injury to the Guinea-Bissau international, Barry will likely not start another game for Everton this season, but he still has an opportunity to win over a vast number of Evertonians.

Thierno Barry must embrace his role as an impact striker

With Beto proving to be in hot form, Barry must accept that for the remainder of the season, he will be used as depth and as impact from the substitutes’ bench.

Although this is not the role he likely hoped to have on Merseyside, it is the role he finds himself in, and he needs to embrace it to fire himself back into the supporters’ good books.

Coming off the bench in the Blues’ recent Derby defeat, Barry was criticized for his performance as his team’s attacking output seemed to dry up following his introduction.

Displays like this will not do him any favours, but he has five more matches to prove his doubters wrong.

The Frenchman’s stats this season have not been poor, and Evertonians have seen what the forward is like when he is playing with confidence.

So for the remainder of the season, it is essential that he embraces the small windows of opportunity that are handed his way and takes advantage of his fresh legs that could change the outcome of some important matches.

One match could change it all for Thierno Barry

Throughout the years, Everton have had several cult heroes play up top for them, and Barry can join the list or even go beyond.

Forwards such as Denis Stracqualursi, Oumar Niasse and Daniel Amokachi demonstrated their hard work or popped up with crucial goals to etch themselves into Everton folklore.

Barry may not go on to be the striking answer that Evertonians have been searching for since the departure of Romelu Lukaku, but if the 23-year-old can summon a couple of crucial goals or a vital assist that secures the Toffees a European tour, then he will have his name sung with praise.
