Everton considering move for Portuguese World Cup star

Everton are deliberating a run at Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario.

The Portuguese international fell out of favour at the San Siro last season following the arrival of new manager Luciano Spalletti, and joined West Ham on loan in January.

The Hammers were given the option to buy the play-maker upon the completion of his loan, but with a reported fee of £35 million required, kept the chequebook in their pocket.

However, it seems Internazionale still deem the 25-year-old surplus to requirements.

Having made an impression in his short time in England (13 appearances for the East Londoners, with two goals and an assist), other Premier League clubs are said to be keen on acquiring the Porto-native’s services.

One such club is Everton, as reported by Gazza Mercato.

With Joao Mario’s fellow countryman Marco Silva in his first summer as Toffees boss, the links may prove to be more than empty rumour. The pair’s paths crossed in 2014 when Silva managed Sporting, and he could reunite with the talisman at Goodison Park.

The Merseysiders are also said to expect competition for the attacking midfielder from Bournemouth.

Inter’s asking price has supposedly been lowered to something in the region of £22 million.
