Everton set to land defender after lodging improved bid

Everton look set to win the race to sign Yerry Mina from Barcelona after making an improved £27 million offer for the Colombian defender.

Goal reports that the Premier League side will beat off interest from Lyon for the defender who impressed in Russia at the World Cup this summer.

The Toffees failed with an opening offer for the defender and Lyon appeared the best suited to sign him this summer.

The club president of the Ligue 1 side had also suggested that the player would rather join the French side, with European football on offer there.

Mina has been tipped to leave Barcelona since the end of the season.

He failed to impress at the Nou Camp after joining in January from Palmeiras.

A strong showing at the World Cup in Russia has seen interest rise in his services, but Marco Silva appears to have won the race to sign him.
