The report claims that Spurs are set to offer a fee in the region of €30m to land the Portuguese international – which Barcelona will then accept as they look to cash in on him this summer.
Gomes joined Everton on loan from Barcelona at the start of the season and has become a star at Goodison over the course of the campaign.
Can Everton replace him in the summer? Definitely. The club have shown now that they are able to make shrewd additions in the transfer market, you just have to look at the likes of Lucas Digne, Bernard and Gomes, himself.
Of course, Gomes is a superb player and there is no guarantee that anyone who comes in will be better than him, but the fans should have faith in the work that is going on behind the scenes to improve the club and progress.
There are plenty of talented midfielders out there who would be willing to sign for Everton – with the attraction of a push for Europa League football and the general allure of the Premier League.
That being said, here are a few players who Everton could turn to if they need to replace Gomes…
Potential Gomes replacements
Bissouma has impressed at Brighton this season and could shine under a better coach at Everton.
Mount has enjoyed a fine season on loan to Derby in the Championship and Everton could look to snap him up on loan next season.
Relegated with Huddersfield, Mooy may be looking for a way back into the Premier League next season. Everton could offer him that.
Clearly out of favour at Chelsea, Everton could attempt to lure him to Goodison with the promise of regular game time.
