Everton are reportedly interested in signing Lucas Tousart from Lyon this summer, but would he be a clever addition?
According to claims from French news outlet Le Quotidian Du Foot, the Toffees have already been in touch with the player’s representatives ahead of a move in the near future.
Tousart may be headed for the exit door at Lyon following the big-money signing of Thiago Mendes from Lille, and as such, an opportunity for Everton to pounce has presented itself.
So, should Marco Silva and Marcel Brands work to tie up a deal for the exciting Frenchman?
Tousart did not have an especially impressive tournament at this summer’s Under-21 European Championships but has shown on countless occasions for Lyon that he has the makings of a high-quality midfielder.
An accomplished technician and an intelligent reader of the game, the 22-year-old has displayed his ability both on and off the ball for his team in Ligue 1, and it seems clubs are taking notice.
Everton have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the permanent signing of Andre Gomes, along with the acquisition of Fabian Delph from Manchester City.
However, the future of Idrissa Gana Gueye at Goodison Park remains uncertain, and this could prompt the Toffees to pursue another addition in the middle of the park.
Tousart does not possess the same defensive qualities that the Senegal international boasts, but he is arguably more adept at circulating the ball and dictating play from deep.
Everton must look to add to their attacking options first and foremost in the remaining weeks of the window, but should they have a chance to recruit a player like the Lyon man, it may well be foolish to pass it up.
