The 23-year old Ivorian has been brought in by Marco Silva as a direct replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who left the club for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week after three seasons on Merseyside.
While little is known about Gbamin on British shores, the man from Mainz has quietly impressed in the German Bundesliga over the past three seasons, having signed from Ligue 1 side Lens in 2016.
Eligible to represent France internationally, and having done so at a variety of youth levels, Gbamin is a fully-fledged Ivory Coast international, having travelled with Cote d’Ivoire to the recent African Cup of Nations.
Gbamin started the Ivory Coast’s final group stage game against Namibia, as well as their Round of 16 tie against Mali.
