Everton transfer target Jean-Kevin Augustin was reportedly subject to enquiry from the club this summer, although the forward rejected the opporunity to move to England.

The Toffees were in pursuit of a new forward for most of the transfer window, eventually landing on Juventus starlet Moise Kean who was brought in to lead the line for Marco Silva’s side.

However before that point, RB Leipzig striker Augustin was considered a target by the Merseyside club. According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Everton made contact with Leipzig in July to enquire about what it would take to sign the Frenchman, only for the 22-year old to rebuff the chance to move to England.

Crystal Palace were also said to have done the same too, although that makes the Sky Sports reporting of Palace’s Deadline Day pursuit of the player a little stranger to understand.

The report also claimed that as many as five other clubs were after the former Paris Saint-Germain starlet.

Nice are now said to be close to signing Augustin for around €20million, as manager Patrick Vieira looks to bolster his offensive options.

For a time I was keen for Everton to sign Augustin. He has earned himself a solid reputation during his time in Germany, and at just 22-years old, he looks to be a promising talent.

However following Everton’s capture of Moise Kean, it does look like the Blues signed the better man, although that can’t be confirmed unless we see the Frenchman play in the Premier League too. Kean is talented and highly regarded, and I can’t wait to see how he improves.
