Frankfurt put Tosun deal ‘on hold’ – Good sign for Everton

Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly put a move for Cenk Tosun ‘on hold’ while they trim their squad to make room.

The Bundesliga outfit were reported recently to want to sign the Turkey international this month, with Tosun having come through the club’s academy at the beginning of his career.

Having lost Luka Jovic to Real Madrid and Sebastien Haller to West Ham, the German club are looking to strengthen up front, with Tosun and Stuttgart forward Anastasios Donis two key targets.

However, as reported by Bild, the club first need to make space before they can bring anyone in.

Frankfurt anticipate interest in forward Ante Rebic and while they don’t want to sell the Croatian, they would allow him to go if the right offer came in, which would then lead them to follow up on interest in Tosun. For now though, everything is on hold.

Tosun spoke earlier this month about his determination to remain with Everton and fight for his place on Merseyside.

I’ve said before that Cenk Tosun could yet prove to be a valuable squad player this season, and I’ll stand by that. While the decision over who starts for Everton currently rests between Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean, there is a long season ahead, and you never what injury crisis could be around the corner.

Oumar Niasse looks set to leave, and Everton need a third option up front that ideally isn’t Richarlison. Tosun is that player in my opinion, and I’m glad to hear that Frankfurt have cooled their interest, even if it is just for a short while.
