Everton were interested in signing French starlet Sacha Semaoun this summer, according to reports.

Marcel Brands built a reputation for himself during his time with PSV as someone who targets young talent across the continent in order to develop them and sell them for substantial profit down the line, and it appears as though he is considering a similar approach on Merseyside.

While Brazilian midfielder Reinier was the more high profile summer target, according to La Depeche (via Sport Witness), Semaoun was another name on Brands’ list.

Formerly of Bordeaux, the 18-year old moved to Toulouse this summer, declaring earlier in the window that “it was too early to go abroad”.

La Depeche claim that Everton had scouts in attendance to watch the midfielder ‘several times’ in recent months, with the club ‘particularly interested’ in his services.

Ultimately though there was no real mention of the Toffees making a formal offer, and as such, nothing materialised.

Now at Toulouse, Everton are likely to keep an eye on Semaoun’s progress, with the club likely to continue monitoring his development.

With these sort of transfer links it is difficult to really ascertain whether it would be a good move for Everton. Like every other outlet reporting this story, I wasn’t able to find out anything about the midfielder online, such is his profile so small at this moment in time.

But Marcel Brands has a proven track record of isolating those who are deemed to be worth pursuing and bringing them to the club he represents, and if the Dutchman believes it is the right move for the Blues to make, then I’m firmly behind his decision in doing so.

Brands likes to track these type of players, so it wouldn’t be a surprising to see Everton keep their eyes peeled to see how he is doing.
