Simms continues to shine and impress Everton fans

Ellis Simms continues to make waves for David Unsworth’s Under-23s side, leading more Everton fans to call for his first-team inclusion.

The 18-year old burst onto the scene last year due to his incredible goalscoring record in the 2018/19 U18 Premier League season, where the striker scored 32 goals in 21 league games.

Since then, Simms has regularly featured for Unsworth’s side, and many fans are finding it difficult not to get to excited by the hype hanging over the player’s head.

Everton’s strikers are largely struggling in front of goal this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has hit a recent vein of form, scoring four times in Everton’s last three games across all competitions, although Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean are yet to get off the mark.

Following Everton U21s success over Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night, in which both Simms and Antony Evans scored in the 2-0 victory, many more fans have been expressing their excitement online over Simms’ talent.

Read Everton Verdict

I’m pleased to see that young stars like Ellis Simms and Anthony Gordon are continuing to impress, and while I’d quite like to see Gordon step up for a short cameo or two in the Premier League, I think it is still too early for Simms.

Everton’s current crop of forwards are struggling partly due to their own ability misfiring, but also due to a severe lack of service. If Simms came into that set-up, I don’t think his fresh approach would change that, and he’d only be hounded out by fans desperate for immediate impact.

If Everton draw a League One or League Two club in the FA Cup in the New Year then I’d be interested to see Simms feature, but playing against a side like Watford in a competition that we desperately want to win, I think it is too soon for the striker.
