Everton fans discuss whether the club should pursue Jose Mourinho

With Marco Silva on thin ice at Everton, many fans have been discussing the dozen managers that the club could look to replace him with.

While it may be a touch optimistic, the general consensus from large sections of the fan base is that Jose Mourinho would be the dream pick to replace his compatriot in the Goodison Park hot-seat.

Mourinho’s spell with Manchester United ended poorly almost a year ago, with the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss being relieved of his duties at Old Trafford last December.

United had won just one of their last six Premier League games at the time of Mourinho’s dismissal, with United having lost to Tottenham and Liverpool, drawing with Crystal Palace, Southampton and Arsenal, and beating just Fulham.

Many United fans had grown tired of Mourinho’s negative brand of football, and his constant dour attitude on the touchline, with several fans also claiming that the decorated coach should have been sacked sooner than he ultimately was.

While he has undoubtedly had a storied and impressive career as a manager, Mourinho’s concluding chapter as United manager has led some fans to claim that he long has what it takes to manage at the top level.

Debating on social media, several Blues fans discussed whether Mourinho would be the right man for the Everton job and, if he would be, whether he would actually consider joining the club.

I’m in mixed minds over a Mourinho appointment, because my memory is still stained by the poor performances and miserable approach he had towards the end of his United tenure.

Also every one of his successes has gone from the ability to draw on not just deep resources but also pulling power, which Everton definitely don’t have over a number of their rivals.

On the surface, he is one of the best managers of all time, but I’m not sure he works for Everton. I wouldn’t go against the move, and I wouldn’t be annoyed or disappointed if the club did pursue him, but I would probably prefer a younger manager who is themselves carving out a career.
