Moshiri has no plans to sack Silva – why this is a positive sign

Everton have no plans to sack Marco Silva, according to Sky Sports News.

The Toffees’ recent run of poor results have put pressure on the former Watford manager, with four consecutive Premier League defeats pushing Silva past the point of no return in the eyes of large swathes of the Everton fan base.

Some fans however will be clinging to the hope that Silva can turn things around at Goodison Park, and they will be buoyed to hear of Everton’s faith in the manager still standing true.

Sky Sports report that while Farhad Moshiri isn’t pleased with the recent run of results, he is aware that planning for the long-term means that you need to allow for missteps along the way.

Moshiri said last year that Silva was the man he wanted to build the club up with, and the Everton owner has chosen to put his trust in the manager, at least for the time being.

There are some contradictory stories out there however, with the Daily Star claiming that Silva has been informed that he has just three games to turn his season around or else he will be gone.

Everton’s next three games will see the club face West Ham at Goodison Park and Brighton at the Amex, both in the Premier League, before the Blues face Watford on Merseyside in the Carabao Cup.

Whatever your thoughts on Marco Silva and whether he should be sacked, I do think that it is positive that Moshiri isn’t prepared to swing the axe so readily.

In modern football it is common to see managers chop and change on a regular basis, but that doesn’t allow for any amount of consistency, and I appreciate that our owner is willing to show a little bit of faith to the man he wants to lead the club forward.

Ultimately though it comes down to Silva himself and what he can do to improve Everton’s performances. Moshiri might have stayed the executioner for now, but it won’t be forever, and Silva needs to show marked improvement and soon.

matchday.
