Silva’s biggest decision for West Ham has a simple solution

Silva’s biggest decision for West Ham has a simple solution

Marco Silva’s struggles as of late have been well publicised, and it certainly seems as though the West Ham fixture could be his final make it or break it moment.

Everton host the Hammers at Goodison Park following the international break, and Silva will be under additional pressure to ensure his team selection and tactical approach is dead on, to ensure the Blues break their four-game losing streak in the league.

As such there should be additional weight to Silva’s primary decision – who starts up front for the Toffees?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has drew a blank against Burnley last time out, and apart from showing some strong poachers instinct against Manchester City, he largely failed to impress in that game too.

Moise Kean is still suffering a goalscoring drought, but his chances aren’t great when the limited game time he receives is consistently restricted to ten minutes or more out wide.

Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse are out of the picture as far as the long-term plan is concerned, and neither will be considered as a short-term proxy in what could be Silva’s final game in charge.

There have been more and more calls on social media in recent weeks for the Everton boss to try the young duo up front together, and that does seem like the best move at this point.

Silva’s tactics and particularly his formation isn’t working with the crop of players he has at his disposal, so a different tactical approach entirely could pay off. Kean and Calvert-Lewin are different players, and they could potentially play-off each-other to good affect.

Silva’s dogmatism has let him down so far and it could prove to be detrimental unless he is willing to make changes and experiment when his plan isn’t working. Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results, so goes the saying.

I’m not fully on board in support of Marco Silva but I’m also not one of the many fans baying for his blood, and I think that unless he shows a willingness to change and adapt to situations when up against a wall, then he may as well say his goodbyes against the Hammers.
