Everton fans hail Sigurdsson’s instant impact against the Hammers

Gylfi Sigurdsson has given Marco Silva a selection headache once again, despite the decision having looked cut and dry.

Sigurdsson was dropped for the clash against West Ham, with Alex Iwobi preferred in the central role behind the striker, and Everton were on fine form.

The Toffees turned in their strongest performance in weeks, with the 2-0 scoreline not reflective of their dominance on the pitch.

Coming on in the 87th minute, Sigurdsson was unlikely to make an impact, with Everton likely to remain unchanged against Brighton next week.

However a thunderous strike from the Iceland international to put the game out of sight of the Hammers may have given Silva food for thought in considering whether to bring Sigurdsson back into the fold.

Many Everton fans reacted to the playmaker’s impactful cameo at Goodison Park on social media.

I was fully prepared to write about Everton’s result was proof that Sigurdsson isn’t needed for Silva’s side to succeed, up until he wrapped his foot wrong a phenomenal late strike.

From Gylfi’s perspective, he had to come off the bench and show why he deserves to keep his place, why he has value in the squad, and that he certainly did.

I think Silva should not change the starting line-up for Brighton, purely on the basis of how well they performed as a unit. However, Sigurdsson will hope that Silva will allow him to walk back into the eleven.
