Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Genk midfielder Sander Berge would be a good signing for Everton to make.
The Denmark international played the duration of Genk’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday evening, impressing with his display for the Belgian outfit.
The 21-year old had previously been scouted by Liverpool and Arsenal, and he has since gone from strength to strength as the all-round midfielder, possessing strength, skill and technical ability on the ball.

Talking on BT Sport following the game’s conclusion (via HITC) Gary Lineker asked Ferdinand which of Genk’s players would he take if he was Everton or Leicester City manager. The former Manchester United defender said:
I like Berge, the young midfielder. I think he’s 21, can take the ball.
As well as Berge having interested Arsenal and Liverpool in the past, the midfielder also rejected a big money move to Sheffield United this summer, as reported by HLN.
Read Everton Verdict
Sander Berge has shown that he is a talent more befitting of a stronger league than the Belgian First Division A, so Ferdinand drawing a link to Everton isn’t out of the realm of realism.
Berge would face heavy competition at Goodison Park, but Everton do need to sign an additional midfielder, so there would be room for further recruits.
Of course this is just one man’s opinion and there has been no credible interest from the club, but it is interesting to evaluate the midfielder’s merits, and I do think he deserves the chance to prove himself in a league of a higher calibre.
Will that be with Everton? Almost definitely not, but he certainly wouldn’t be a bad acquisition.
