Silva challenges Everton medical staff to have Bernard available for Norwich

Marco Silva has set his medical team the challenge of getting Bernard back to match fitness for the Norwich game after the next international break.

Everton face Southampton at St Mary’s this weekend before the Premier League is once again put on pause while the international break gets underway.

Following the break’s conclusion, the Toffees host Norwich at Goodison Park, and Silva wants Bernard to be an option for that game.

The Brazilian attacker has missed Everton’s last two games against Watford (in the Cup) and Tottenham after he injured the ligaments in his right knee against Brighton late last month.

Thankfully, the 27-year old didn’t suffer major damage that would put him out for many months, and now Silva is hopeful that the medical department at Finch Farm can quickly get Bernard back to being available, with the game against the Canaries coming in just over two weeks.

However, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Silva does understand that what he is asking will be tough for the medical staff to pull off. The Everton boss said:

I would like to see him again after the international break.

I know I am putting some pressure on our medical staff and on my staff to get him in a good condition.

You know, we always have a date in our mind and it is always a bit big but I am trying to put the normal pressure on them to see if Bernard will be with us after the international break but let’s see.

Bernard’s comeback for the Norwich game would be extremely welcomed, although it does seem like a tall order.

Ligament damage recovery is something you shouldn’t rush, and if Bernard is fit then great, but Everton absolutely should not force him back early and ahead of schedule.

He would add a degree of quality that Everton have been missing though, as he started off the season well for the Merseyside club.
