Andre Gomes has posted a heartfelt video message on social media, thanking fans for supporting him and sending him positive energy following his devastating injury.

The Portugal international suffered a fractured dislocation of his right ankle against Tottenham on Sunday after getting his boot stuck in the Goodison Park turf during a collision involved Heung-min Son and Serge Aurier.

The 26-year looked to be in some anguish as his foot was twisted in a horrible direction, and the midfielder was immediately taken to hospital to undergo surgery, a process that was successful with Gomes now back home.

It is expected that Gomes will be unavailable for any amount of time between six months and a year, although with an injury as severe as his, he could potentially miss the entire of 2020 in the worse case scenario.

Taking to Twitter and Instagram, Gomes thanked his fans for offering up their commiserations following his season-ending injury, saying:

Hi everyone. As you already know, everything [surgery] went well.

I’m already at home with my family and I’d like to thank you all for the support, the messages and the positive energy. Thank you.

Gomes appeared to be a little emotional in the video, prompting many fans to offer an outpour of further support to the midfielder.

There is little more that I can say here except that I wish for Andre Gomes a speedy and healthy recovery.

Gomes seemed a touch emotional in that video, which makes me wish someone could give him a hug. I’m glad he’s home with his family around him, and hopefully the Everton fan base can keep sending him the support he needs.
