Several Arsenal fans are desperate for their club to pip Everton to reported target Mikel Arteta.

We covered the story yesterday that the Toffees are eyeing their former midfielder as a potential successor to Marco Silva, should the Portuguese manager be sacked from his position at Goodison Park.

However, several Arsenal fans are desperate for the Gunners to steal a march on the 37-year old assistant Manchester City coach, who is highly regarded as a prospective first-team manager.

Unai Emery has come under serious scrutiny at the Emirates after the London side’s recent rotten run of form, and many have called for him to be replaced.

Arteta signed for Arsenal from Everton in 2011, playing for the club for five years and eventually going on to be named club captain.

Reacting to the news regarding Everton’s interest, a number of Arsenal fans have bemoaned the club’s lack of urgency in getting rid of Emery, demanding Arteta be brought to North London.

I expressed my thoughts on if Arteta should come to Everton yesterday, so regardless of that, I hope Everton are able to move quickly and beat out any other interested clubs if they do indeed decide to approach Arteta.

The Spaniard should have a much stronger connection to Everton than Arsenal, which would hopefully give Everton an edge, should the Gunners decide they also want to move for Arteta.

Personally I would hope Everton would move for someone more experienced and proven, but if they decide Arteta is their man, then I hope they get their man.
