Everton loan defender Jonjoe Kenny has admitted that he wants to play for England one day.
The 22-year old full-back, who is currently on a season-long loan with Schalke in the Bundesliga, has impressed for the German side this season.
Kenny has been a mainstay in David Wagner’s side this season, being named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month in August and being nominated once again in September.
Schalke have expressed a desire to keep Kenny in Gelsenkirchen beyond the end of his loan spell, while many Everton fans feel that Kenny’s Germany experience is preparing him to come straight back into the Toffees’ squad next summer.

Talking to Schalke’s website, Kenny made clear his desire to turn out on the international stage in the future, although he also acknowledged the heavy competition he would face in his position, saying:
My goal is to play for my country one day. Trent Alexander-Arnold is playing really well at the moment and there are plenty of other quality wing-backs in England.
I want to play as many games as possible here and put in good performances for my team and the whole of Schalke. Until then [an England call-up], I’m going to do everything I can to keep improving.

It’s always really hard to predict how and if a young player will develop to the degree that they can make the jump to senior England squad. Both Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman showed that early on, although now neither are close to being at that level.
I’d love to see more Everton players in the England set-up, personally. Some are more concerned with their performances for Everton than their international progress, but I feel that with more call-ups, Everton will inevitably begin to be noticed more and more.
Kenny has undoubtedly succeeded so far this season, and hopefully he keeps it up.
