Sigurdsson warns Liverpool that there is plenty of time for them to lose their Premier League lead yet

Gylfi Sigurdsson has warned Liverpool that there is a long way to go in the Premier League title race.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League table, and after beating current fourth place Manchester City at the weekend, they’re now eight points clear of Leicester City in second.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are the only side not to yet lose a game in the Premier League this season, and many fans and pundits have claimed that this could finally be ‘Liverpool’s year’.

However, Everton star Sigurdsson has reminded his club’s bitter rivals that they looked to have won the league last year before eventually losing out to Man City.

Talking to Fotbolti in Iceland, when asked about whether Liverpool had already all but confirmed their first Premier League title with a victory over City, Sigurdsson said:

No, no, it happens so much over December and January. Didn’t they have a good head start last year?

There is a lot of games ahead. Liverpool are very strong and this was hugely compelling against City. It’s still November so there’s plenty left.

If Liverpool continue to play as the team has been doing it will be difficult to catch them but City can completely get on track and win lots of games in a row.

Liverpool held top spot last season from early December until early March, where drawing with the Toffees saw Manchester City overtake the Reds, and nine wins in a row couldn’t help them catch up.

I must admit I do have this ominous feeling that creeps into me every time I see Liverpool play. They do look like a complete team, and if I was to bet my life on the eventual winner of the title this season, it’d be hard not to back the Reds.

However, Gylfi is right in that Liverpool looked unstoppable at one point last season, until they weren’t. There is time for City to come back yet to ruin Liverpool fans’ hopes and dreams.

Here’s hoping.
