Cenk Tosun suffers injury on international duty

Cenk Tosun has sustained an injury in training while on international duty with Turkey.

The 28-year old is unlikely to feature in his country’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers after tweaking his groin.

Confirmed by Turkey manager Senol Gunes when talking to TRT Spor (via the Liverpool Echo Live Blog), Tosun will definitely miss Thursday night’s game against Iceland. Gunes said:

Cenk Tosun is injured…It doesn’t seem very serious, but most probably he won’t be playing in [Turkey’s] next two matches.

Tosun has recently forced his way back into Marco Silva’s plans at Everton, starting against Southampton last weekend.

The former Besiktas man had earned his spot back after a number of impactful substitute appearances, grabbing a late assist against Watford and scoring the equaliser against Spurs leading up to his first start of the season.

While Gunes doesn’t believe the injury to be serious, it could be concerning information for Everton, who have suffered a number of injury problems this season.

Tosun is expected to be fit and ready to play in a week, and the Toffees will hope there are no further complications.

Hopefully this does turn out to be a minor injury, because Everton have had all the rotten luck regarding injuries that they need for one season.

Tosun may not be every fan’s favourite player or even the most effective forward, but he is another option for Marco Silva, and one that always works his socks off at that.

Cenk deserved his start against Southampton, and even though it didn’t pay off for him this time around, I’d have no problem with him starting against Norwich too, although I would love to see him start alongside Moise Kean.
