Benitez reveals he wants eventual Premier League return

Rafa Benitez has revealed that he plans on returning to the Premier League in the future, although he doesn’t plan on leaving Dalian Yifang any time soon.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager left Newcastle at the end of last season and headed to the Chinese Super League, however his family have remained in England.

Several clubs in the Premier League could be on the lookout for a new manager shortly, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton all rumoured to be considering alternative targets in preparation to sack their respective managers.

Benitez has often emerged as an ideal target from fans on social media, with many feeling that the Spaniard wasn’t given proper support and backing at St James’ Park.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, Benitez revealed his long-term ambition to return to the Premier League, saying:

In the future I will come back to England.

I am happy here. It is not I want to go back right now, it is I would like to go in the future.

Here you can watch every Premier League game. I follow all the Premier League because you need to know the players and the league.

My idea in the future would be [working in] the Premier League. I want to stay close to my family and it is a league I like a lot.

Several Everton fans have suggested that Benitez would be the ideal manager to succeed Marco Silva at Goodison Park, despite his previous history with Liverpool.

I’ll be totally honest, and I know it isn’t the more popular response, but I don’t want Rafa Benitez.

He’s a great manager and by all accounts he seems like a lovely man, but I just can’t get past his Liverpool history, rightly or wrongly. It’d be ideal for that not to be an issue for me, but it is, so here we are.

Undoubtedly though if Everton did appoint Benitez, I would back him and I would also know full well that the club could have done much worse, ie. David Moyes or Mark Hughes.

Benitez is far too good to manage in China, and it did seem like only a matter of time before he returned to a prestigious league competition.
