Everton eye former Benfica boss Jorge Jesus to replace Silva

Everton are interested in Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus if they decide to sack Marco Silva, according to reports.

Silva has come under considerable pressure on Merseyside in recent weeks, and Everton’s loss to Norwich at Goodison Park last weekend was for many Everton fans the final nail in the coffin regarding Silva’s tenure with the club.

While some had hoped that Farhad Moshiri would have already swung the axe by now, it appears as though Silva will be given the Leicester game at least, with the Foxes being the first of five incredibly tough Premier League fixtures to come next month.

Should Silva fail to impress and should Moshiri finally decide that his favoured choice to manage Everton has to go, the Toffees will reportedly look to Jorge Jesus as one possible candidate to succeed Silva.

Telegraph Sport report that the former Benfica manager, who last weekend won the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo, is someone who Moshiri admires.

The report does claim that no decision has yet been made over Silva, and it is currently business as usual at Finch Farm. However, should he be moved along, Jesus would be someone that the Blues would consider.

Jesus has expressed an interest in managing in the Premier League in the past, and fans would likely take to the successful Portuguese over other options that have been put forward, such as David Moyes and Mark Hughes.

Much of what I know about Jorge Jesus comes from his time with Benfica, where he had a reputation for sure. Jesus is a passionate and committed manager, and his touchline antics are the complete antithesis to Marco Silva’s stone-faced displays.

Jesus was largely successful as Benfica boss, and Flamengo’s recent success in the Copa Libertadores was their first title success in that competition since 1981. Jesus is undoubtedly a winner, but it remans to be seen whether he’d have the ability and character to turn Everton’s misfortunes around.

I would personally prefer either someone with more experience of managing in the Premier League, or someone is more hungry and youthful than the 65-year old Jesus. However, Everton simply need to make a change sooner rather than later.]

There will be many more reports of rumoured interest to come, and we’ve already seen several reports that have been much worse than Jesus so far.
