Several Everton fans have expressed sympathy for Marco Silva after he was forced to wait so long to be sacked on Thursday.

Following Everton’s 5-2 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, many predicted that Silva would be shown the exit door by owner Farhad Moshiri.

On Thursday, Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and other board members including Marcel Brands, Denise Barrett-Baxendale and Sasha Ryazantsev travelled to Finch Farm to deliberate on the manager’s future.

They eventually came to the conclusion that Silva was to be sacked, and Everton confirmed this at 7:40pm last night.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, it took the Everton boardroom around five hours to reach a decision, meaning Silva was informed that he had been fired around 10 hours after he had arrived at Finch Farm.

Taking to social media, many fans were not happy about the tortuous waiting game that Silva was subjected to.

This really is disgraceful behaviour from Everton, if true. Not only is it unfair and cruel to force Silva to do a day’s work with a noose hung around his neck, but it also reeks of a lack of professionalism.

Silva had to be sacked, and ultimately it should not have taken the board that long to come to the conclusion. Everton could have sacked him on Wednesday night after the Merseyside Derby, or even first thing in the morning, but instead they kept putting it off longer and longer.

By all accounts Silva seems like a nice guy who had a plan that just didn’t work. He didn’t deserve that treatment, and Moshiri should have dealt with it much better.
