Everton are keen on former Chelsea winger Jeremie Boga

Everton are interested in former Chelsea winger Jeremie Boga, according to reports.

The 23-year old forward currently plays for Sassuolo in the Serie A, and he has attracted a number of clubs with his performances this season.

As well as the Toffees, Inter Milan and Brighton are said to be keen, while Napoli hold the most firm interest, having already made their first offer of around £17million.

According to Goal, Chelsea have a buy-back clause in Boga’s contract although they have shown no indication that they will look to exercise it, allowing for Everton to swoop in if they decide that they want to do so.

The Ivory Coast international joined the Neroverdi for £3.5million in 2018, meaning that the Italian outfit could be set for significant profit if they decide to sanction a sale.

Boga is likely to be sold for around £20million, while Chelsea’s buy-back option is around £12.5million.

Everton’s forward options are in desperate need of renovation, particularly with Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse on the way out of Goodison Park, while the long-term future of Theo Walcott remains cloudy.

Operating primarily as a left winger, Boga is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, as well as a second striker who can play off the shoulder. His versatility would allow for more creative freedom for Carlo Ancelotti when naming his line-up, and his side would also benefit from the injection of pace he would bring.

Having barely made an impact at Stamford Bridge after coming through Chelsea’s academy, Boga could represent a fairly cost efficient option for Everton to possess. He is quick, skilful and is able to contribute, having had a hand in 20 per cent of Sassuolo’s goals this season so far (via Transfermarkt).

While he may not be the high profile name that every Everton fan wants to excite and wow them, Boga could be a sensible alternative that could ultimately prove to be a smart piece of business for the club.
