Nzonzi would be open to Premier League return amid Everton interest

Steven Nzonzi would be open to returning to the Premier League, according to reports.

Everton were first linked with the French midfielder last month, while reports earlier today claimed that the Toffees would compete with West Ham for the 31-year old’s signature.

Currently on a season-long loan with Galatasaray from Roma, Nzonzi has struggled to make an impact in the Super Lig, managing just ten starts for the Turkish giants (Transfermarkt).

Everton are keen on ending the Frenchman’s struggles in Turkey by bringing him to Goodison Park this month, and Turkish outlet Aksam (via Sport Witness) claim that the midfielder would be open to such an offer.

Aksam claim that Nzonzi would be open to returning to the Premier League, where he previously played for Blackburn Rovers and for Stoke City.

Lyon are also interested in signing Nzonzi, while Roma are said to be in talks with interested parties, ahead of making a decision over his future in due course.

Either way, it seems as though Nzonzi will be leaving Gala this month, with Aksam claiming that he is no longer in the first-team plans in Istanbul.

Nzonzi would be a valuable player to sign in this current window as he would add immediate quality to Carlo Ancelotti’s side and competition for a starting berth. The midfielder is often calm and composed on the ball, and his mobility and passing ability would allow Everton to dictate play in midfield so much easier. With Everton’s extensive injury list too, Nzonzi would likely be an automatic starter from the word go.

Lyon have greater European prospects, which could sway the Frenchman into moving back to France, although with the money at Everton’s disposal and with a man of Ancelotti’s calibre at the helm, you’d hope that the Toffees would be able to tempt the midfielder.

Everton desperately need a holding midfielder, and getting Nzonzi in sooner rather than later would quickly ease that issue.

matchday.
