Carlo Ancelotti still believes that the Europa League is a possibility for Everton this season, and several supporters have celebrated his comments about the club’s qualification hopes.
With Manchester City to face Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final, sixth place in the Premier League will be awarded a Europa League spot should City claim victory over the Villans, so explains the Premier League.
Meanwhile Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester, Chelsea, Tottenham and Sheffield United, the current top six in the Premier League, are all still in the FA Cup as the tournament enters the fifth round, and should one of those clubs win the cup, seventh place in the Premier League will also be awarded a Europa League spot.
The Toffees are currently just four points behind from Tottenham, who sit fifth in the Premier League table, and Everton boss Ancelotti has reaffirmed his belief that the club can get back onto the continental stage by the end of the campaign.
Speaking following Everton’s 3-2 win against Watford on Saturday, where a late Theo Walcott winner saw the Blues complete a dramatic comeback, Ancelotti explained his European ambition, reported by Mail Online as saying:
I think we have to try and compete for the top, to reach the Europa League for next season.
It could be really important. I don’t know if we are able to, I think if we are able to keep this period, this concentration, I think we can reach the Europa League – we have to fight of course, but I think we have the possibility to fight.
Everton haven’t been in the Europa League since the 2017/18 season, where Ronald Koeman’s side couldn’t make it through the group stages. The Blues lost four of their group stage games, winning just one but only in a dead rubber against Apollon Limassol after the club’s elimination had already been confirmed.
Ancelotti’s comments about the Europa League and Everton’s ambitions have excited a number of supporters, who are loving the manager’s positive attitude.
