Cabaye raves about Everton target Wesley Fofana

Former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has labelled Everton target Wesley Fofana as “fantastic”, talking to the official Ligue 1 Podcast.

Star Sport reported last month that the 19-year old Saint-Etienne defender could become Carlo Ancelotti’s first major signing as Everton boss.

Talking to the Ligue 1 Podcast, Cabaye, who now plays for Saint-Etienne, praised Fofana amid Premier League links, as well as William Saliba, who will link up with Arsenal in the summer. Cabaye said:

He’s like a big man – he’s only 18 but he’s like a big man. The way he plays, him and Wesley Fofana are both fantastic.

The future looks bright for them and I hope they continue in the same way.

Despite being young at just 19-years old, Fofana has first-team experience under his belt already, having played 16 times and scored twice in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club this season (Transfermarkt).

Described by WhoScored as a ‘very strong’ interceptor and aerial presence, as well as a ‘strong’ tackler, the 6 foot 2 centre-back could fill a gap in Everton’s squad, with the Toffees only having three senior options in that position.

Everton will rely on Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina until the end of the season, but having been fortunate not to have suffered any major injuries in defence this season, the club should look to ensure they have options ahead of next season, and Fofana could be solid option.

Not only is he big, powerful and a strong physical presence, but he has also been talked up by the likes of Cabaye as having a big future, which could help Everton set up the long-term framework for future success.
