Everton are interested in Rangers defender Connor Goldson

Everton have entered the race for Rangers defender Connor Goldson, according to Football Insider.

The Toffees were reportedly interested in signing a centre-back last month, with the defensive position deemed a priority position in need of strengthening.

However, the Blues failed to bring anyone new to Goodison Park, leaving them with just Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina to see out the season with.

However, with Everton expected to revamp their squad this summer, a centre-back will likely be high up on the agenda, and Football Insider claim that the Toffees have found their man.

Football Insider claim that Marcel Brands is currently eyeing up potential targets and Rangers centre-back Goldson has emerged as an option, while West Ham and a host of Championship clubs are also said to be keen.

Rangers are also said to be aware of the growing interest in their 27-year old defensive star.

Since signing from Brighton 18 months ago, Goldson has been an almost ever-present member of Steven Gerrard’s side, playing 58 league games in one-and-a-half seasons at Ibrox.

Goldson has already featured 41 times this season in all competitions, every one of them from a starting position, indicating just how crucial the former Brighton man is to Gerrard’s team (Transfermarkt).

Described as being a ‘strong’ passer but a ‘weak’ tackler by WhoScored, the 6ft 3in defender would be a towering addition to Everton’s backline. With Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina having seemingly established themselves as first choice for Ancelotti, the Blues could look for another rotation option alongside Keane, as opposed to a first-choice superstar, and Goldson could be the right man for the job.

With Transfermarkt valuing him at just £4.5million too, the 27-year might be a cheaper option, with the club needing to shift players before they invest heavily in the summer.
