Sporting make decision not to buy Bolasie
Sporting Lisbon don’t have any intention of using their permanent option in Yannick Bolasie’s loan deal from Everton, according to O Jogo (as translated by Sport Witness).
The DR Congo international joined the Lions on a season-long loan deal in the summer, with Sporting having the option to make Bolasie’s stay permanent for just €4.5million, a snip of the £25million Everton paid Crystal Palace for him in 2016.
However, O Jogo are said to have been left unimpressed with his form, as well as the form of fellow loanee Jese Rodriguez, with the duo now set to return to their parent clubs in the summer.
So what comes next for Bolasie?
The 30-year old, who last played competitively for Everton in May 2018, is unlikely to feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans going forward, particularly with the Italian looking to add to his wide options in the summer.
With his contract set to expire in the summer, Bolasie could more than likely head up a long list of players who will exit Goodison Park in the summer, with Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina both joining him as free agents on their way out.
Bolasie is unfortunate in a sense, with his season ending injury in 2016 essentially putting a huge dent into his hopes of success with the Toffees, as he was never able to recover fully from the cruciate ligament damage.
However, the winger should still find it easy enough to find a new club. He had offers from Russia and from the Championship last summer, and having scored twice and assisting five goals in 23 games this season, the forward will likely stoke interest in the coming months, even if the Lions aren’t pleased with his form.
With his contract up at Everton though, his time as a Blue is most likely over.
