Everton could still want Goldson with scouts watching Rangers against Braga

Everton could still be interested in signing Rangers defender Connor Goldson, with club scouts having taken in the Scottish side’s Europa League clash against Braga on Wednesday.

Rangers took on the Portuguese outfit in their Round of 32 second leg, winning 1-0 on the night and progressing to the next round with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Goldson, who Football Insider claimed earlier this month had emerged as a target for Everton, played the duration of the match for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Everton’s interest in signing a new centre-back in the summer has been well documented, and the 27-year old Englishman might have remained on the club’s radar following their latest scouting trip.

STV’s Ronnie Charters confirmed on Twitter that the Blues were one of 26 clubs to have representatives in attendance for Wednesday night’s game.

While Everton have also been linked with Alfredo Morelos in the past, the club’s need for defensive reinforcements in the summer make Goldson the more likely candidate for the club’s scouting interests.

Since signing from Brighton 18 months ago, Goldson has established himself as a crucial component in Gerrard’s side, playing 61 times in the league since swapping the Amex for the Ibrox.

Goldson has only missed two games all season, one in the Scottish Cup and another in the Scottish League Cup, playing every minute of the 47 games he has been a part of for the Gers.

The 27-year old has established himself as an integral player in Scotland, but should he wish to return to the Premier League, Everton could do much worse than line up a move to recruit the former Seagull.

With Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina currently playing well together, Ancelotti could perhaps look to add depth instead of finding an immediate replacement for the starting line-up.

Should that be the case, Goldson could be a sensible and cost-effective signing, with Transfermarkt’s £4.5 million valuation of the defender indicating that he might not be overly costly.
