Everton Fans Fume as Seamus Coleman Called Up for Ireland

Many Everton fans have been venting their fury after club captain Seamus Coleman was called up to the Republic of Ireland’s international squad.

The Irish right-back is in contention to face England despite apparently being ruled out of action for several weeks with a hamstring injury.

Despite having previously aggravated his injury whilst playing for Everton, the 32-year-old has been called up into Stephen Kenny’s 26-man squad for the games against England at Wembley on November 12, Wales in Cardiff on the 15th and then a clash with Bulgaria in Dublin three days later.

Whilst it will undoubtedly delight some fans that their captain is deemed fit enough for international duty and recognise it is a personal honour to represent his country, there are understandable concerns that rushing the skipper into action too soon may risk further exacerbating his injury issues.

However, the call-up may also indicate that Coleman could be fit for this weekend’s crucial fixture against Manchester United, offering a boost to Carlo Ancelotti’s defensive options. The leadership provided at the back by the experienced club captain will come as a further boon as Everton look to push up the table.

The strength of negative feeling was clear, though, as some of the Goodison faithful were keen the voice their concerns following the news…

matchday.
